Maharashtra GDS Selection Criteria

The selection in the Maharashtra GDS will depend on the following aspects

  •  The Selection will be considered on the basis of the merit list prepared as per the rules based on the online applications submitted by the candidates.
  •  There will be no weightage given to candidates for their higher educational qualifications. Only the marks obtained by the candidate in the 10th class of respective Boards will be the criteria for the selection. The candidates have to pass in all subjects of 10th grade.
  •  Those candidates who are having both marks and grades in their mark sheet have to consider the marks only.
  • If the marks sheet of any candidate contains the CGPA, marks will be calculated by taking the conversion of CGPA with the multiplication factor of 9.5 with the obtained CGPA by the candidate.
  • In case if candidates obtain the same marks, the order of merit list would be based on the preference of DOB, ST female, SC female, OBC female, EWS female, UR female, ST Male, SC Male, OBC male, EWS male, UR males per the rules of Department of Post.

Intimation of Joining in Maharashtra GDS

After the results for Maharashtra GDS are declared and the selection list is prepared and displayed on the official site, selected candidates will get an SMS on their registered phone no. regarding their provisional selection in the Maharashtra GDS. The final selection will be based on the successful verification of the documents by the selection department.

Additional Requirements before Joining Maharashtra GDS

Following are the additional requirements that is to be fulfilled by the selected candidates at the time of joining

Knowledge of Local language

The candidate aspiring for GDS must have fluency and studied in the local language as stated by the State Government or as per constitutional provisions relating to the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.

Knowledge of Basic Computer Skills

The candidates before joining the GDS services must know the basic computer skills. As proof, the candidate has to show proof of basics of computer certificate of minimum 60 days from the authorized computer learning centre. The candidate must be efficient in handling various operations such as typing, emailing, and other basic computer skills.

Knowledge of Cycling

The knowledge of cycling is a necessary condition for all aspirants of GDS posts. In case if any candidate having skills of riding a two-wheeler that can be considered into the knowledge of cycling. But for this, the candidate has to submit a declaration in regard to this.

Furnishing of Security

On joining as a GDS, the candidate recruited have to arrange for security in such manner as instructed from time to time. The existing security amount that has to be submitted to GDS Branch Postmaster and other ensured categories of GDS is ABPM & Dak Sevak is Rs.25000/- & Rs. 10,000 respectively.

Job Profile in Maharashtra GDS

BRANCH POSTMASTER (BPM)

The task of Branch Post Master is to govern the affairs of the GDS Branch Post Office, India Posts Payments Bank and ensure seamless counter operation during the given working hours through the electronic gadgets provided by the Department. The complete management of postal facilities, record maintenance, online transaction details, and globalizing of Postal, India Post Payments Bank services and initiation of business in the villages or Gram Panchayats within the authority of the Branch Post Office should carry on the Branch Postmasters. Branch Postmaster will be overall responsible of the efficient functioning of Post Office which covers mail conveyance and delivery. He/she might be supported by Assistant Branch Post Master of the same GDS Post Office.

ASSISTANT BRANCH POSTMASTER (ABPM)

The  task of Assistant Branch Post Master is to assist Branch Postmasters in alternate duties using the gadgets provided by the Department. He/She will also be have to do marketing, arranging food, business acquisition and any other task given by the Branch Postmaster or other officials of Post office.

 DAK SEVAK

The task of Dak Sevaks is also to make the sale of stamps and stationery, conveyance and delivery of mails and any other tasks given by Postmaster/Sub Postmaster including other official work in the Departmental Post Offices. Dak Sevak may also help out their  Post Masters and Sub Postmasters in governing the efficient functioning of Departmental Post Offices and practice marketing, business acquisition or any other job instructed by the Post Master or other senior officials. In Railway Mail Services, the GDS has to handle tasks like closing/opening of bags, carrying bags from one place to another and any other works issued by the Railway authorities.
