At the time of the video conference, the Prime Minister explained how during the pandemic, the PM Cares fund helped in the preparation of hospitals, arranging ventilators, and building up the oxygen plants. Objective of PM Cares for Children Scheme

The scheme has been launched to make sure the complete care and safety of the children whose parents left them untimely because of the deadly coronavirus. This will be done by providing health insurance, education empowerment, and providing them with financial support till they reach the age of 23 years. The support is provided with a convergent approach, the funding will be provided monthly once the child gets 18 years old. After he/ she attains the age of 23 years, the government will transfer the lump sum amount of Rs. 10 lakhs.

Support for Boarding and Lodging

  1. The involvement of the District Magistrate and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) will take place. The chances of rehabilitating the children with their relatives will be checked so that the child can live with someone he/she knows.
  2. If the first condition is not possible then the child will be sent to foster care as per the Juvenile Justice Act 2015.
  3. if the second condition is also not possible then the children will be sent to the Child Care Institution (CCI) as per their age and gender.
  4. It will be kept in mind to prevent the separation of siblings.

Assistance for Pre-school and School Education

  1. The children below the age of 6 years will be provided with facilities such as supplementary nutrition, health referrals, health check-ups, and preschool education. This will be done with the help of Aganwadi services.
  2. Children who are younger than 10 years will get admission as day scholars in any of the schools that are close to their homes. It could be Government, Government aided Schools, KVs, or Private Schools. The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan will be applicable in the government school. As for admission into private schools, the guidelines of the RTE Act will be followed.
  3. The children who are between 11 to 18 years old, if he/she is living with their extended family then admission into the previously mentioned schools will be provided. He/ she may get enrolled by the DM in Netaji Subhash Chand Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya/ Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya/ Eklavya Model Schools/Sainik School/ Navodaya Vidyalaya/ or any other residential school.

Assistance for Higher Education

  1. Education load will be provided for completing professional or higher education in India.
  2. If he/ she is unable to avail of the interest exemption then the interest will be provided from the PM Cares for Children Fund.
  3. Benefits of Scholarships as per the rules and regulations will be provided to the eligible children.

PM Cares for Children WorkFlow

After the successful registration process, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) will conduct the verification process of the child who registered on the portal. The CWC will forward the details of all the children to other agencies on the portal to carry out necessary activities. After that, the CWC will send its recommendation to the DM. From thereon, it will be the responsibility of the DM to open the account of the eligible children. Once the whole procedure of verification is completed, the amount will be transferred to the beneficiary account.
